Sittin' Pretty

A few weeks back, I posted pictures of this nest in the wreath on our front porch.  A few days after we first noticed the nest, we spotted two eggs.  Just as quickly, they seemed to disappear (or got pushed to a different corner of the nest that I couldn't see).  Can birds MOVE their eggs if they decide to relocate?  Hmmm.  We wondered, and determined that the eggs are just well hidden.

The next time I stepped out on the porch to take pictures, there was a second nest on TOP of the wreath.  This one was bigger, and a little muddy.  (Yeah, I'm thinking this might be the end of my wreath!)  Also, the second nest was much too high for us to see into.  We wondered if the first nest had been abandoned?  -- or did they just "move upstairs?"  --or do we have a little "condo situation" going on on the front porch?

Yesterday, when my daughter and I were outside, we saw a robin fly out from under the front porch.

Today, I stepped outside to take some pictures in the yard.  I quietly made my way to the front of the house to check on the nests.  Much to my surprise, there was the mama robin sitting in the top nest.  She sat perfectly still until I raised my arm to take a picture.  Then, she flew the coop.

Determined to get a picture of her in the nest, I plotted and schemed -- okay, not so much.  But -- I made a plan.  When I went outside later to get the mail, I watched from the mailbox (at the street) to see if she was in the nest.  Sure enough - yes!  So, I walked straight across the lawn to the front steps, my camera raised in preparation for the shot.  I approached slowly, and snapped a few pictures.

As I walked away, she chirped angrily at me and flew to the nearest tree.

The saga continues...

"My Husband Rocks" Friday ~ 5

On Tuesday, we passed like ships in the night.
He was on his way home from work, and working out.
I was on my way to an evening meeting.
We hadn't seen each other since he left for work early in the morning,
and wouldn't see one another again until I returned from my meeting
late in the evening.

As I left the meeting, and opened the door of our van, I found this:

NEVER in our 24 years of dating and marriage,
has my sweet hubby ever had flowers delivered to me.
ALWAYS -- he either delivers flowers in person
-OR-
like this time,
he leaves them as a surprise for me.

You Capture: Outdoors

Here's hoping this one was really ready to hatch!

The world is turning green again, and it's an amazing sight!

Who knew that if you got close enough to a dandelion...?

My Favorite Season

What is your favorite season?

Sweet Shot Day

I always hesitate when asked that question.
I know I don't like WINTER.
That's a no-brainer.

FALL is enjoyable, if we're speaking of the weather.
However, it still is a back-to-school reminder for me,
which makes me ever-so-sad (yes, still).
Just the sight of those back-to-school sale papers
makes me a little nauseous.

I always thought SUMMER was my favorite.
I love the break in the routine,
and more relaxed days with fewer expectations.
However, even that has changed
since the advent of summer jobs for me and the kids.
Which is not to say that I still don't love summer.

But...as I grow older,
I have learned to more fully appreciate the beauty that is SPRING.
Since I have become interested in photography,
I seem to gravitate toward photographing flowers
in their various stages of development.
That is a never-ending fascination for me.

And so, for me: Spring.

But just to be on the safe side,
ask me again in July.

Thoughts for Today

Something to think about...

As appreciative as I am to our Presidents (past and current),
and to the military personnel who saw this operation through,
it still leaves a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach
to think that we are exuberant over a person's death.

Late last evening, I was on facebook
reading reactions of young and old to the evening's news.
More than ANYthing, I was struck by this fact:
Our kids are watching to see how we will respond!!

"Do not gloat when your enemy falls;
when he stumbles, do not let your heart rejoice."
Proverbs 24:17 (NIV)

"Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD.
Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?"
Ezekiel 18:23 (NIV)
