There Were Never Such Devoted...

Sisters!

Today is my sweet sis's birthday.  You might remember, her name is Jill.  I won't tell you how old Jill is, but she's four years younger than I.  You do the math.  In thinking about a "sisters" post, I visited a favorite site: quotegarden.com.  The "sisters" quotes run the gamut.  From sweet and sentimental to ornery and obnoxious.

Ideally, I was looking for something sweet, as Jill and I really are dear friends to one another.  So, there were quotes like these:
  • A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost.  ~Marion C. Garretty
  • What's the good of news if you haven't a sister to share it?  ~Jenny DeVries
  • In the cookies of life, sisters are the chocolate chips.  ~Author Unknown

However, which of us would be honest enough to say that there are days when you also feel like this:
  • If you don't understand how a woman could both love her sister dearly and want to wring her neck at the same time, then you were probably an only child. ~Linda Sunshine
  • I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness.  ~Emily Dickinson  (oh Emily, that stings!)

But, ultimately -- the question comes from Sara Corpening: "How do people make it through life without a sister?" Yep - that's the question.

Indeed.

Happy Birthday Jill!
What a blessing to have
you as my sister!

  2. "If you don't understand how a woman could both love her sister dearly and want to wring her neck at the same time, then you were probably an only child." Now THAT is an appropriate sister quote! lol (I know - I've got one.)

Happy Birthday to your sweet sister Jill. May the Lord grant her a most special day filled with uncontainable JOY!!

  3. I agree that the quote by Linda Sunshine is most appropriate. I think all sisters can agree on that!
    Happy Birthday to your sis!
